Engine doesnt turn over???
Dont mean to butt in like this but FordRacing302, were you a member of themustangsource.com ? JW because theyre was someone with the same name I think it might of been Fordracing 2000 but he had the same picture up and the same name. Just a Q.
If you've jumped the solenoid and nothing happened, you've got other problems. Have you checked to make sure the motor will turn and is not locked up? When you jumped to the small post on the solenoid, did the solenoid click? If not then the solenoid is not working.
When I jumped the solenoid it did click, actually it was more like reapeated clicking until i let off of it....And also I read that if i jump the positive battery cable directly to the starter than it should turn over, I tried this and just saw sparks so this means it has to be the starter even after I tested it at autozone a few days ago???? I dont understand whats goin on??
Are you sure your battery is not weak and all your connections including grounds are clean and tight? Have you tried turning your crankshaft with a socket and pull handle or ratchet to make sure that the engine is not locked up (I know the thought of that sucks, but it is a possible reason)? Have you tried jumping it off using good heavy jumper cables and a strong supply source? And if all of these are OK, then yes, you may need to check the starter again. Also, make sure there is not an alignment problem that could cause the starter gear to wedge in and lock up.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
Yes the motor turns fine with a wrench, and the battery is up to almost 13 volts......And i did do a voltage test on the solenoid and its workin just fine, so i guess it has to be the starter
but the starter is not the only problem, im not getting any voltage from the push on wire that connects from the solenoid to the ignition switch...so what all can i look for, for that problem??? when i turn the key to on position all the dash lights light up but when it goes to start position nothing happens, and all the fuses are good, as well as all the fusible links
Regarding the battery; 13V doesn't mean it's good. Only if it's holding over 11 volts under load. But, if the starter is bad and pulling too much load, it could pull the voltage low on a good battery. So you really need to test with a known load. Also, as I've stated before, make sure that you've checked ALL of the connections for all of the battery cables. A bad or dirty connection can cause a failure to supply sufficient amperage for the starter to turn the motor over.
Regarding the wire to the solenoid; it should only have voltage when the switch is in the Cranking position, so you'll have to get help to check it. Assuming that you've checked it in the cranking position and it is not working, most likely candidate for problem is the ignition switch. It's located down on the steering column under the dash not too far from the firewall.
