Default Speedometer 94 GT

After acting up for a few months, my speedometer has quit indicating. The ODO is still working. I was wondering if anyone has used any of the mail order repair places to repair them.

There's probably something up with the speed sensor. take a look at it and make sure the wires or connector aren't jacked up and get a new sensor. If that doesn't work you can either become an electrical technician the fast way or you can take it to someone with a nice scanner and pay them to tell you what's wrong with it.

Basically if it's not the sensor that's jacked up then you've got a problem with your speedometer, your ECM, or some jacked up wire somewhere.

I fixed it over the weekend. As i stated in the original post, the odometer was still running. That meant the VSS was not affected, nor the wiring between it and the cluster, nor the speedo/tach module.

I believe the only things the vss is used for are:
1) cruise control
2) dashpot function= triggered by the vss & used for idle control between shifts and when slowing to a stop to prevent surging and stalling,in a manual (T5) setup

So what did you wind up doing to fix the issue?? Repair/replace the speedo in the cluster itself??

I'm not sure about the manual but the GT with auto has 2 sensors for velocity. one measures the output velocity for the ecm, and the other, the one with the exchangeable gears, is the one for the speedometer and odometer. the first one is a hall effect sensor, the second is a generator that operates the speedometer's stepper motor and the odometer's continuous motor. The speedometer and odo inputs are on the rear of their module in the cluster. they are connected with a steel clip that cost a fraction of a cent and opens with the vehicle's vibration. I restressed the clips so they made good connection. $155 saved.
