Default speedo sensor causing CEL?

My speedometer sensor had been on its way out for about 2 weeks now. It just died completely on my ride home. Could this be the cause of my CEL coming on? It just came on a few minutes ago.

spedo sensor....does that mean your speedometer doesn't work?

As far as I know, the CEL comes on when anything seems just a little off(or really off in some cases )

Ya my speedometer doesn't work. When it does it just goes up and down. I had asked about it dieing and someone said that they had seen it die within 5k miles of a new car.

Does "P1900 Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit Failure (Ford)" sound right? I haven't had it checked yet, but that is the speedometer code I think.
