Default AOD dimensions please

AOD dimensions:

Could I ask a favor of some kind person- measure the distance from trans centerline to the outer edge of the flange the pan screws to. At 15”, 16”, 17” and 18” back from the front mounting surface, toward the passenger side. The pan looks to be offset, not centered. I am trying to determine the fit of an AOD into a 55 Tbird. This car has an X frame that makes it real tight. I hear some folks have done this, but I cannot get any real concrete info. Has to be the non-computer version of the AOD, late 80’s I presume.

Thnx

I know your post has been up for awhile now and you probably got the info your need but if not, I have an AOD out and I could try to get it for you?

Thnx Srat, you are the only person to respond and offer, thnx!!! but we decided to rebuild the orig trans, and put in a 9" rear with 2.75. the original rear Dana44?? might have some issues anyway.

The 9" is an excellent choice. AOD would work only miserably with a 2.75, but you have that issue covered. Original trans. in '55 T-bird would be Ford-O-Matic, starts in 2nd. gear in "D", has P, R, N, D, L positions, should start in 1st. gear when in "D" if throttle depressed through the "detent" built into the linkage behind the carburetor, then upshift to 2nd. WOT only.
