HELP WITH MAJOR PROBLEM
Can anyone help me with information on my 1986 GT> I recently installed a Cobra upper/lower intake on my stock 86 GT.
I now have white smoke coming from both exhaust pipes and a can see steam coming from the passenger side valve cover/head area. I have no gas leaks and I see no coolant leaking. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

RE: HELP WITH MAJOR PROBLEM
You must have a coolant leak in your lower intake. You will not see the coolant leak because it is leaking into the cylinder head. The steam you see is the coolant being burnt in the exhaust. When you remove the stock lower intake you have to make sure that you scrap off the old gasket really good. It MUST be a very clean surface before you put the new gaskets on with your new intake. Also make sure your torque it down correctly.

RE: HELP WITH MAJOR PROBLEM
did you only go over the torque sequence 1 time or did you go over it till all the bolts were torqued?
you may have to use some silicone on the front and back water ports if you used a felpro gasket other than a 1250.
your coolant is leaking into the combustion chamber.

RE: HELP WITH MAJOR PROBLEM
I tighten the bolts by hand, then followed the torgue sequence in the Chilton book.
Which holes are for the water ports? So I may put the silicone around them.
Thanks. Any other advice that you can provide? It would be greatly appreciated.

RE: HELP WITH MAJOR PROBLEM
Okay here we go...
I took everything off, called the dealership where I bought it. They said to use silicone around the water jackets.
Well (HAHAHA) I forgot to put silicone on the top side of the gasket...
BUT GOOD NEWS..... The motor still puts out white smoke but the engine runs with having to leave your foot on the gas pedal.
I will take everything off and put that silicone on the top side of the gasket.
Shall I replace the old gasket with a new one? Or just put the silicone on the top side??
Thanks for the help

RE: HELP WITH MAJOR PROBLEM
I use a thin layer of RTV on the top and bottom layed of the gasket and a thicker layer around the jackets....... Always remember not to use the cork gaskets on the front and back of the lower.. throw those peices in the garabage and use a nice thick coat of RTV

RE: HELP WITH MAJOR PROBLEM
I will do that, thanks.
One more question,....
What do I do with the rubber hose that comes up the passenger side of the motor from the area of the smog pump. Its about the size around as your pinkie finger or a pencil.
Thanks
