balancing stroker kit...

i'm planning on buying a stroker kit from dss racing. they offer to balance the kit for $175 extra. should i trust that or take it to a machine shop myself?

From what I know the engine has to be balanced in the motor, But i have been wrong before... just not very often

it's a must for it to last....175.00 is well worth it make sure it's done as a rotating assy

Best have the harmonic balancr that you aare going to use and the flywheel/flex-plate too. That all needs to balance togather.
About $150-175 is what they get anyplace around here.....

but it has to all be installed as a bottom end to be done... stupid question... by flex plate do you meant pressure plate?

flex plate is the flywheel for an automatic.
autos use sflexplate
manual uses a flywheel.

I belive they will have a setup that will spin it.
it will be hard to balance it in the block.

Many correct answers here, best way is to have individual pistons and rods set to eqaul weights and then balance assembly with harmonic balancer and flex plate (or flywheel clutch, pressure plate)

and besides balancing would there be any other things that i need the machine shop to do that i wouldn't be able to do myself?

Depends on if you are getting all the parts I listed in previous post from DSS. You want all the parts and the rotating assembly as a whole to be balanced. If you are not getting all the above from DSS I would take all to local shop.
