Having them o-ringed is definitely good. Not sure it is a must but definitely good.
The next best option is receiver grove in head and run lock wire gasket. If you have the heads off and are doing that much work, you should go for o-ring or receiver groove.
I have both options running 13 - 15 psi of boost, both working okay.

what is the difference?
I thought o-ringed heads accept loc wire gaskets. doesnt it mean there is a groove cut into the head, and the gasket fills the groove so it wont blow out?
what is a reciever groove?

O-ring uses and actual 0-ring in a groove to seal.

Receiver grove is only cut in head. The lock wire gasket has a metalic ring that fits into the receiver grove, the gasket is normal head gasket for sealing. The reason this works is becasue it keeps the gasket from walking under load and changing conditions.

Sorry I missed this earlier, the o-ring grove is in the head for mine. Fel-pro makes a gasket for this application (1006) it uses metal to fill the o-ring groove.
