Default 351 convershion

Hey everyone, im thinking about doing a 351 convershion in my stang, my question is what will and wont work, do i need differant motor mounts? bellhousing, trans, all that kind of stuff. also does anyone know what i can get a 351 out of that is 4 bolt mains? or what brand block should i buy, money is no to much of an issue, but im not looking to spend over 8k in the motor. thanks

i assume you mean a 351w motor. it is pretty easy. they both use the same motor mounts and bellhousing pattern. you will probably need a different transmission due to the extra power of the larger motor. a c4 transmssion would work but its an auto. or an after market manual like a tremec. the majority of the parts for a 302 will fit on a 351w other than intake, oil pan and the heads have a different size bolt. to put a 351w in a foxbody you would need a dual sump oil pan and a cowl or hood scoop. there are a few places that sell conversion kits for the swap. check summit. they make aftermarket 4 bolt mains blocks but i wouldn't know which would be a good one to recommend.
good luck,
carl

if you arent on a tight budget, i would look into crate motors such as a CHP 408. are you planning to keep it EFI?? fyi it will be much more expensive and more difficult to keep it EFI. you will need some long tube headers, oil pan, and really thats it, depending on what accessories you want to run. the extra power will require a new fuel pump if going carbed and all new intake and fuel stuff for EFI, plus a new tranny and 31 splines axles and diff to hold up to the power ull be puttin down

ok thanks for the replys, yes i do mean a 351w and that is what i want to keep it, im not going to stroke it, and im not going to buy a crate motor, im building a high revving 351 im thinkin nascar crank, aluminum connecting rods, and light weight forged pistons. i do want to keep it a efi, to do that what would i need to do? like what manifolds will work, and trans wise it will be a t56 thanks a bunch everyone

to keep it EFI you will need

1) bigger fuel injectors, TB, MAF sensor, and fuel pump.
2) EFI 351W intake
3) the stock ECU should work, but it will need a tune
4) im a noob when it comes to EFI, so im sure i missed something

also what need to be done to the ecu exactly? i mean the 302 in are cars is the same firing order as a 351, and if you had a 347 VS a 351 the computer would not know the diff

Forget the aluminum rods. They are for stuff like T/F cars. NASCAR engines use VERY high dollar steel rods.
Get some Eagle H-beam type, that's all you'll need.
Not sure but make sure that the heads you are going to use and the long tube headers are really for a 351 as the taller deck of the 351 can cause problems with fit-up......

302 and 351 heads are the same besides head bolt sizes

also the 302 and 351W firing order are not the same, unless you use a 302 cam (which you can do) . refer to your cam card for firing order
