Stereo Resets After I Kill Eng
I just installed my panasonic headunit with 4 polk DB series speakers (no amp yet) and everytime I cut the engine and start back up, it resets the presets, equalizer, and I have to take out whatever CD is in there and put it back in inorder for it to work...

Is there something I could have plugged in extra or missed?

Thanks for the help on this one...

The red wire coming out of the back of the stereo is the constant power. This needs to be hooked up to a constant 12v source. This is what keeps your memory and presets on your stereo after you kill power to it. The yellow wire should be hooked up to a seperate wire that is controled by ignition... meaning it should only be live when the ignition is turned on. This turns your stereo off when you turn the car off (so you dont kill ur battery forgeting to manualy turn it off). Get a test light and find out which wire coming from the car is constant.. and which is controled by the ignition. This should solve your problem

should the red and yellow wires be separate or are they in that bundle of wires that plugs in?

Ya I hate em too, maybe if I was good at doing stuff with electronics I'd like em...

i actually took an electronics course in school last year and i did well in it, but i dont remember any of it. engine stuff is just the opposite. if i hear it once i remember it forever!!! i think i dislike them more than just because i dont know much about them, i just like working one-on-one with cars (ie carburater) and the electronics are always the things that fail or do not work well with eachother. in a carb you have to turn a couple screws to get it to run well, but with electronics you have to program them and get the right mass air size, etc which is a major pain inthe a$$
