Less rotating force, its really not that much of a gain just a cosmetic gain, cleans up the engine bay alot. The was the first thing I tore outta my stang second the A/C then the CAts.... God I hate Cat's and Smog systems WTF

^ yeah he's right you will lose some weight on the front end

if you remove the pump get a shorter belt so the engine will spin more freely

I heard that it isn't a good idea if you still have the stock heads, though.

Anyone else feel that way? I have been thinking about doing this in my 84 but wasnt sure what all was safe to take out. I want to keep my A/C, it works amazingly.

Smog doesnt really do anything other than make the vehicle more environemental friendly, you just have to remove it properly... First remove pump and plus all vaccum lines going to it. Then remove the piping to the back of the heads and plug those holes with a bolt or some people have used cut off spark plugs but you can buy special plugs for it. THen cut off and plug the tube going into your exaust pipe. its all done from there remove it all outa the engine bay and it looks a million times better and you have a bit more power. Plus then engine is easier to work on after thats out as well....... I have no EGR or smog system on my car.

The only thing is if you bypass your pump but dont remove it, just run a shorter belt, then i have heard of it clogging up the heads or something.

you can bypass it for the track but thats about it

if you remove it all youll have to do what schwindty said along with remove the lower intake and putting the blocking gaskets over the EGR hole

also have to make a plate for the egr spacer an then take apart the valve and sensor and just plug sensor back in and make sure sensor is fully closed and you wont get any check engine lights
