When Cats Go Bad!!
Whats the deal with cats and when they go bad. Ive seen em catch fire, but is there anything else that happens that i can tell without pulling them thatll tell me they need replacing? for me, its almost like my car is congested, and im thinking somewhere in the exhaust system from cats to muffs.
any thoughts

RE: When Cats Go Bad!!
Cats can clog up, the easiest way to tell if your exhaust is clogged is hook up a vacuum gauge. Then rev the engine to 2500 rpm and hold it there. The vacuum should be at about 18-25in/hg. If the exhuast is clogged it will begin to drop slowly to about 8-13in/hg. This should happen within the first minute. If you do this test and its lower than 18in/hg from the start there is a clog in the intake or a really bad intake leak.
