The had forged pistons before 87 though...and I can't vote since the years I like aren't there. The only key differences in the 87-93 group are the MAF, airbag, tilt wheel and bigger front inner fenders. And if you're going to build a car anyhow, you're going to get right motor, maf, and whatever combo to make it the best I guess.

i've had a:
1. 1985 5.0 Notch
2. 1987 5.0 Notch
3. 1992 5.0 Notch (current car)
the 1985 was the fastest (and the most built of the two. mechanically the 1987 was totally stock, and my 1992 is totally stock. my 1987 notch was faster than my current car.

I would also have to say 89 for the obvious reasons. BUT I think the steering wheel is very ugly (89+ I believe) along with the pockets in the door panels (89+). So we can say a 1988 from California (w/ ma)

iv had an 88 and currently a 90, stock or lightly modded the 88 was faster, i prefer the 90 cuz i like the airbag wheel, i would only touch a 93' if it was a cobra.

i have an 89 and while i love my car i do think the '90 model
had a little nice interior dash.
The A/C - heater controls in the '89 are kinda cheap and junky
and i only have 85mph speedo.

There were a lot of changes in the interiors.. Not really cosmetics, but things such as Seats, Rear luggage strap, rear valence cargo cover, dummy lights, door pockets, headrests, fuel door and trunk/hatch pop, interior rear shock covers (square or round) defroster switch, in-dash fuse panel (some cars the fuse panel is underneath the dash) shifter ****, air conditioning *****, steering wheels, ignition key inserts (black or chrome), blinker levers, and tilt steering just to name a few things....
