Default Question about Alt?

My car died on me the other day,I have a 92 5.0 the battery isnt even a week old. I tested the power of the battery and it was fine, When i would drive the car my headunit would just cut off and my lights would get really low, Yes it was the stock alternator, I have a vortech, ignition box,4 guages, headunit, i have a descent amount of things hooked up to it. I baught a 85 amp alternator, should that fix the problem?? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx

If you are buying a new one i would have put nothing less than 100 amp.I run the 100 amp lincoln LSC alternator. You also need to check the voltage regulator on your alternator it sounds bad. Also since its off the car take it to any parts store like autozone or advanced and have it tested.

You can get the brandnew lsc alternator for about 100 bucks and you can go all out and get a 94-95 mustang GT alternator thats putting out 130 amps for around 200 bucks.Either of these will work for what you have since theres not much hooked up.You may want to also look into an adjustable regulator. That way you can tailor your alternators output to your needs.

I think you may need to hog out the brackets and use bolts.I know that i had to get a new bracket for the lincoln lsc alternator since that thing is HUGE!But even with a full system consisting of alpine r types(3) a mtx 81000D a kenwood 600 componets and a ps2 and screen and it dont dim out at all.I also used a 1 farad digital cap.But it stays right at 14.4 volts and never drops.

Default Question about Alt?

I installed the 140amp powermaster alt, one wire to the positive post of the battery and fits the stock mount with no mods to the mount. Always had charging problems with the stock alternator and pulleys, now the lights won't even dim with everything else going.

$186 from summit. By the way, you just tape over the two stock plugs and tie them neatly out of the way. The voltmeter still works fine, as it is not tied into the alternator circuit.
