Thanks for the well wishes, everyone seems ok with the exeption of her boyfriends arm,but it's healing. We stripped all the bent sheet metal from the car and took it to the body shop at the dealer I used to work at to see if they could straighten the bent framerail and core support. The left rail is pushed in like an accordian and bent up,the core support is bent up to the hood. The body shop said they can't straighten it but they could weld new framerails on the car from a donor car.The problem is that it will cost around 1000 dollars, and that,s with no ticket and paying the guy on the side.We don't have alot of money so I'm thinking of buying a cheap 4 cyl stang and swapping over her v8 , manual trans, suspension, and gt body kit. There are 2 of these cars near me for less than 500 dollars, one even has decent paint. So what do you think? How hard is this swap?Has anyone here done it? thanks jim

it not that hard to swap every thing over it will just take a while. ive done it and im no macanic and it came out fine

Sad story, like everyone said I'm glad the injuries weren't major. I think you should go for the 4cyl swap. Being that you've been a mechanic for 20 some years I'm sure you can pull it off. I bet that's the cheapest option since you have all the parts to begin with. Do you have email? Send the pics to me at newmanjz@notes.udayton.edu I'll resize them and post them up. I also think you should get your daughter involved if you do the swap. She seems to like her mustang as much as the rest of us; she'll learn more about her car, and feel more pride in it when it's done. Plus, you'll have someone to hand you that 1/2" socket when you're in a contorted position

i think i would do the swap. it will be very time consuming, but cheaper than reparing the gt which looks pretty bad rite now. you'll have all the parts for the swap, and you obviously have enough experince to make it work, and if im not mistakin, your insurance will be based on 4 cylinder car..which means cheaper..

they didnt ttal the car, another thing u can do to possibly prevent this from happening again in the future is upgrade the brakes. this cars suck at stopping with stock stuff so maybe a disk brake conversion and some new calipers will be in mind to help her stop fatser in case this ever happens again.
