Default Can I get to the lifters?

Can I get to the lifters just by removing the u/l intakes on the 5.0 HO? I know on my 390 and other engines you can but I'm just not sure about this one. And would anyone reccomend going with a cobra or a GT-40 intake or somethin while I'm replacing the lifters and have that stuff all off or hold off to spend my money on the gears? I think that the intake would be a better decision. Then, later this month or next month, I'll have the money for the gears and what not. Anyone want to reccomend some new lifters off of summit or anything?

great time to do a intake, but you will benifit more from gears than the intake.

Oh I know that, but there was a review that I read that said that they are on the interstate alot and doing 65 alot, I am on the interstate 75% of the time and back and forth to school I do 65. I've also heard that my gas mileage is going to decrease to about 15-17 mpg with the speeds that I drive.

the pushrods will have to be removed also, when you put them back in torque them
down to 20ft lbs

can you not just fish them up through the heads with a magnet. That is is they aren't to mushroomed on the bottom. I know the 390's you could.

the lifters wont even fit through the pushrod holes, so no you cant use a magnet to get them out.
and if you could, how would you get them back in without taking off the intake?

if it were me while i was at it I would go ahead and swap in some 1.7 RR's while i had the valve covers off. Or stick with the stock 1.6's and go with a hotter cam like a TFS stage 1.

Don't have the money for the RR's. So I think for now, I'm going to get a cobra or a used intake (edlebrock etc.) and just stick with that and then replace the lifters. Are there any high performance lifters that will last me a little bit longer than the stock ones, or should I just stick with the stock ones? Gears can wait.
