oil pump
is there any way you can tell by looking if your oil pump is broken? about a month or so ago i took my car off the road because i had no oil pressure and it was making a LOUD taping noise, so i took the engine out and i have it on a stand now. when i took the oil pan off every thing looked fine to me but im no machanic. is the no oil pressure the oil pump? with the ticking noise i thought i spun a bearing but i dont see any metal shavings at all. what else could be making the taping noise? could it be a bent push rod?

RE: oil pump
Take the bottom plate off the oil pump and see if you can turn the pump by hand with the oil pump drive shaft while watching the gears inside turn. That will tell you if they gears or anything is broken with the pump.

RE: oil pump
i couldent turn the shaft but i could turn the gears. i took off the pump and noticed that the shaft's end had a hex head, but where the shaft goes into the pump i noticed it isnt hexed shaped. is that the way it is or is it striped out?

RE: oil pump
is the end that goes into the pump round? because if so then its your oil pump shaft that would be a lil weired, and hard to do. if that is the case get a new pump and shaft, also while you are their put new rod and main berings in. get a melling oil pump. a oem oil pumo shaft is fine, and get clevite 77 bearings.
