1980 302 Question
I found a 1980 302 for 400 bucks that has been totally rebuilt with 0 miles on it, but have read somewhere that in 1980 all 302's were debored to 255's for emissions. Which i would really not want if that were the case. Is this true or am i just fooling myself into not buying this engine. Its going to be converted to a carbed engine to go into my 67. Anyone got any ideas or know if they were really 255's? Thanks in advance.
Yep, 255 is a 'debored' 5.0
Same stroke but smaller bore.
Tiny ports, small tiny crappy vavles. In short it was a tiny, crappy engine that Ford gave up on.
I really don't even think it's worth $40 unless you have an '80 that you are restoring.
BTW, they were carbed back then , not injected......

I just bought an 80 302. for 20 bucks. had it bored to 4.030 bought summit rebuild forged kit. so i dont think bore is the problem with the 255 thing. i think where they get ya is in the stroke. didnt check that. yet.
In the lifter valley it has 80 and over both lifter bores it says XXX. on the back pass side bottom it is hard to read with a crappy casting but it looks like DOAE and under that it looks like DEC. any thoughts??
