Default Hi I'm new, and a question about the 5.0L.

Hi, I just recently bought a 1995 Ford Mustang GT, and I had a question about the engine...It is a 5.0L High Output...my question is, do all mustang GTs come with HO engines, or is it an option or what? What kind of power on paper would a stock one put out? is it 215hp like the manufacturer claim or whatever? The engine has headers, but I think that they came stock? I'm not entirely sure. It came with a flowmaster exhaust system and a MSD Distributor and MSD Spark Plug Wires.

But yeah, are all 5.0L engines High Output?

86-93 came stock with headers (thou not that good of ones) and GT,LX came with 5.0 unless the person ordered diff. but they do not come with MSD stuff or flow master. I think same goes for newer ones also. Some one with more knowledge will respond soon so keep checking back. Welcome to the family it's an awesome site to learn things and help.

the MSD stuff isnt stock and neither is the flows. The car comes stock with crappy headers they are crappy bc they crimped the tubes. Now if the tubes on your headers are not crimped then he changed them too. Yes all 87-95 mustangs with a 302 are HO. Yes 215 is the stock rating for the 94-95 body style

Yah you learn stuff like the GTs were all 5.0L and the LXs were all 2.3L.

Thats not right either you could get a lx with the 5.0 or a 2.3. The gt only came with the 5.0.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????

what did that mean????

5.0's in the stangs were HO from the cam, heads , and it's a roller motor.
the exact same 5.0 in the GT was available in the lx (or GTS if it was a sn95)
look at your headers and for the pinched points like described b4.....every bend it will look funky and pinched...not just a bend.

and excess pinches for dipstick clearance and other clearances. stocker headers are about useless.

but all in all if you have msd, flows and headers...all else stock, i think 230 hp is a realistic number for you.

When you say "put on paper" I'm assuming you mean rear wheel hp.
If you put the car on a dyno you'd probably net slightly less than 200hp. Ford, like most manufacturers go with flywheel hp which would probably be around 220 for you assuming your headers are stock. Some power is lost when going from the engine to the wheels...more is lost with an AOD...FYI.

Okay, thanks . I will check the headers when the car gets out of the audio shop in a bit. Put on paper was a bad choice of words on my part...The power I meant was the power from the crank or flywheel or whatever, not from rear wheels. All in all, I think I will love my stang :P. I bought it as a first car to learn standard on and whatever, because in a while I will be getting more money, and I was thinking about a Subaru Impreza WRX STi, but now I'm worried that I won't like it when I test drive it...The stang torquing over when you rev it, and the knowledge that you can kick the back end out always puts a smile on my face :P...If I don't like the STi, I could always get an SVT Cobra .
