Hey tim, it seems that you are either overworking your alt that is causing it to overheat or if you hear anything odd coming from your alt could be a bearing. I usually try to do a visual check. For example start your car and look at your voltmeter for any irregularities or bearing noise coming from your alt, when was the last time you replaced it?

i put it on like a month ago, but it has 200k on it lol, it makes no noise or anything, its quite, i just think it shorted out on me, also my plug wired were leaning agents the back of it, could that of caused something to short out?

you have to understand that when an alt shorts out, meaning it stops working. Are you getting a charge? start your car and look at your volt meter?
