With the dry cell Optima batteries do you have to put it in a sealed box i wouldnt think so you should just be able to bolt it down

if your going to race at a drag strip it will have to be in a sealed box
but if not i guess you can do what ever you want, i'd would find out
about inspection issues, they might not pass it if it not in a box

Your there should'nt be a problem, but they can fail you at tech, even though it's a sealed dry cell. I would put it in a box just to be sure.
