hi, i have a 302 block it dosent need to be bored, but it needs to be hot tanked and hoaned. my local mechine shop said 200 (50 for hot tank, 150 for hoan) i was just woudering if this is a normal price or can i get a better deal.

 

I just dropped off my block at Car Quest tonight. They send it to another Car quest south from me that has a machine shop. To hot tank it, check for crack, and straightness, I was quoted $64! But now I added them to take out the cam bearings and freeze plugs...I have a feeling that it's going to cost a bit now though but I think that's a high price for just honing. I was quoted $115 to bore AND hone at a local shop...

At the shop where i go to, its 100 dollars for hot tanking, magnafluxing, boring, and honing. plus another 30 or so if you want new plugs and bearings.

 

$150 to hone is obscene. That's ~$19 per cylinder. Bore and hone is usually under $10 per hole.
