Default 5 hours for a gear swap!!????

So I phoned the ford dealership today, asking for rates and wondering how long it would take them to remove the 2.73 gears and replace them with a 3.73 FRPP Ring and Pinion. And they told me 5 hours at 98 dollars per hour.. Doesn't this seem a bit excessive??

I phoned another place called Western Powertrain, and they said they can do it in 4 hours for 72 dollars per hour. My only concern is they are not a ford dealership and may not have the parts in stock to do the job.. Is there anything besides the 3.73 Ring and Pinion that is needed to do a gear swap like this... If so could one of you techies make a list for me?

Well there's alot more to it than open the cover, take 2 bolts out, remove the gears, throw the new gears in, tighten the two bolts and throw the cover back on. When we did my Jeep front axle it took about 5 hours and we had a idea and the tools to do it...plus beer. But anyway, it's specialized work and they will charge for it. Sure, anyone can "regear a axle" but how long will it last?

Thank you for the feedback regarding cost, I do however think 98 dollars per hour and 5 hours for "factory trained" technicians is a bit much, but this western powertrain place seems like a good deal... can anyone answer my question regarding parts?

Just get a master rebuild kit with the gear set. Everything you need (parts wise) is in it. Shims, crush sleeve, pinion seal etc etc

I don't plan on it.. Trouble is I am new to edmonton so I don't really know of any good shops around.. If anyone who lives in the Edmonton area knows of a good shop that specializes in Mustangs please share. So far the closest I can find is in Calgary 4 hours away.

I'de do the work msyelf but I am very hesitant about doing a gear swap as I have never done it before, and I probably don't have the tools.
