5 hours for a gear swap!!????
I know your dilemma but, a good installation takes time and the right tools, it's not a bolt-on upgrade. If you want to size up the procedure it takes for a good installation check the net bible on Ford's 8.8, http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/5o...5ohtech001.htm, it will give you the details involved. Although $450.00 in labor is a little too steep(@$98/hr), anything below $285 in labor is too good to be true, I would question the quality of the installation (shortcuts). My 2¢.
im a ford service manager and the book claims 5.2 hours for a limited slip diff. now many people have done these so many times that they could do them under 2 hours. but at what expense whining, grinding ,abnormal wear and short gear life. so what im saying is if you take it to a non ford shop make sure they are equiped and capable. good luck man.
Theres 3 or 4 performance shops in my area. I got quotes from 2, one quoted me 600 and that included all the parts and the other quoted 300 and I supply the parts.
book time and real time is 2 different things.
it only takes 1-2 hours of real time.
but they will charge minimum $200....$250 on average.
if they supply the gear...expect to pay $400
doesn't have to be a ford dealer...an axle shop will do a better job anyways cuz they only do that.
your local speed shop will probably charge $250 check w/ them....you may need to get the gears you want and have them do it...or they might prefer you buy them from them.
call around more.

Because you are new to your area I would go to the Yellow papes section of the Internet and you can find shops that are close to you. YOu don't have to take it to a Mustang specialist shop there is nothing special about the rearend that would require you to search for a Mustang shop. Any driveline shop will be able to do the work. Your best bet would be to buy all the parts and take them to the shop and let them install the gears. just my .02
Thats alot of money, but in Edmonton I think your going to be hard pressed to find one. Im not even sure if there is one in all of Saskatchewan, I know Performance Plus Disturbitors in Saskatoon has a dyno and dyno tunes there but they don't have a mechanic on hand to be doing stuff like that. If you know anyone that was a mechanic, you can pretty much tear it down yourself, just get them to set the back lash on it and shim it. Also can you either use silicone/rtv sealent or a gasket. Cause when I did my gears there wasnt a gasket and i just used rtv sealant to put it back together and its leak free. So your best bet if you want it done by a mustang specialist is going to Calgary.
