Catalytic converters really wont do too much to the sound and what you can do is buy some and put them on a week before you go for smog then take em off when your done. Try also reducing the timing a little more, 1 or 2 degrees.

no dont worry about the q's where else would you go to find out. The thing is is I dont know if you would be able to put the cats on a non stock X pipe. Catalytic converters are pretty cheap and changing your timing is no biggie at all.

by smog he means an emissions test.
unless he can find a garage to hook him up .
most places that have smog checks also require that they do a visual inspection
and it is techinally illegal to remove smog equipment that came on a car if it is driven on the road.
