Default Thermo LEAKING!!!

I installed a new thermostat today and when I started my car it started to leak. It did this the last time I installed one into this car, it leaks for about 20 minutes untill the gasket gets hot enough to fuse to the metal. Now to my knowledge its not supposed to be doing this, so why is it leaking? I put the gasket on the elbow side, not agianst the engin. And I dont have chrome or anything..

Whats RTV? And if its not supposed to be leaking I realy wanna find out why its leaking... I cleaned the metal fairly well, so there wasnt any pieces of the old gasket on the metal any more. I couldnt get the smaller hose off so I had to slide the elbow to the close position in a tight space so the gasket may of moved i guess... but this happened both time I changed the gasket....

You may have to use a large screwdriver to get that small hose off and on by prying on it. I haven't yet found an easy way to do it, but in order to have a least some decent access to the housing and stat, you need to get it off.

You don't need a gasket sealer, rtv or otherwise if everything is clean. I've never used any and (knock on wood) have never had one leak.
