Default New Thermo Houseing

I picked up a new thermostat houseing hopeing this will stop the leak, but this thermostat houseing has a hole under where the big hose would connect to. But it came with a screw to put in the hole, but the hole seems to be getting smaller as it gets closer to the inside of those houseing, meaning the screw wont go all the way in. I just wanna know whats ith the screw that my old houseing didn't have and is it supposed to go all the way in??
