Default Drivesahaft

How much does a lighter aftermarket driveshaft really help? upgrades are endless on any car, but is a driveshaft even worth the money, just curious to get some opinions?

its not so much about how much power it will give you. a lightweight drive shaft would fall under the same category as underdrive pullies and lightweight flywheels. they all reduce rotating mass which allows the engine to rev up more freely i dont know if it is worth the money you pay but they aretn that expensive on summit racing.

I would do some chassis stiffening and some other suspension mods before I'd worry about upgrading your DS. If the body/chassis has a lot of flex, you won't benefit any from lighter DS.

I agree, a aluminum drive shaft is something that should be done after most of the other things are done, since it is not cheap, and benefits are small in comparison to others that you could use the money on. If you go to 4.10 or lower gears, a aluminum drive shafts benefit goes up some to reduce drive line vibration you will get from the much faster turning shaft. I have been working on my project car for 3 years, and just installed a aluminum drive shaft last week. I am running 4.30 gears. I weighed the 2 shafts, and the aluminum one is 9 lbs lighter.

Good job captain obvious, i know its lighter, i was just wondering if anyone has noticed a track time difference after changing there driveshaft, yes im sure it does help, but how much, because i just put 4.10 gears in my car but i know and have had experience with how much that upgrade helps, i am not one to buy a part that really aint worth the price less its mostly a strip car.

You didn't say what you have done to your suspension...if you've already done all your chassis stiffening, then get one. If not, then spend your $ on that.
