That is a very deep question. Most of the time might be took up in getting things done at the machine shop.
Are you looking for the time it take to just put the engine together or the average time it takes to get the machine work done and put things together?

Knowledge & Money play a big factor also. I would not rebuild a motor and put stock heads on it though... JMO.

yes, you can use the stock heads. if you don't have the money to get new heads, you can port the runners and install bigger valves.

my complete rebuild took probably a month. as stated before, there is a lot of machining to be done by the machine shop.

you will need an engine stand, a complete socket set, a torque wrench, piston ring expander/compressor, cam bearing install/removal tool, harmonic balancer puller, a LOT of engine degreaser, and if you are rebuilding the heads you will need a valve spring compressor. most importantly you will need patience

edit: check out my site in the link. i have a lot of pics of the buildup in there

One weekend is pretty fast... but anyway, I would do it with that guy. You will learn alot about your motor and than if you ever have to do it again you wont need as much help. The more you know about your motor the better...
