RE: can a t5 handle 500+hp?
a T-5 wont hold up too long to power like that, i wouldnt waste the time on it
a tremec should handle it pretty good, but a built auto might be the way to go
they can handle alot more abuse that a 5 speed

Don't know the trans that he had but a guy down the street from me has a 5 speed in his blown 454. he is putting about 900 rwhp down and about equal that in torque. it is a 70 Nova.

that is the one I am trying to work into my budget. That TKO600 is a beast of a trans. A auto trans would be able to handle the power better than a 5 speed but if you are like me and your car is going to be more of a nice day/weekend car...a 5 speed is going to be more fun.

no no no no no! to answer ur question simply, NO! lol
my last stang had aprox. 375 hp and I went through 3 t-5's. its actually not the hp that puts the load on the trans., its the torque. i have read somewhere that the t-5 is only good to up to like 350lbs of torque? maybe im wrong though cause the borg warner t-5 is very well known. maybe i just suck at driving, or have bad luck with transmissions, or both.lol who knows.
