But I got something called a plastigauge, what, how, and why should I use this I never used it in the past. Also what is the best way to paint the block. I bought a can of cast iron color paint. should I lay down a primer?
well the plastigauge im not going to comment on. but as for painting the block use primer then a high temp (paint 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of paint, 1or 2 coats of high temp clear and it will look geat) have fun.
I learned to use plastigauge when I was in tech school. We used it on our engines to measure main and rod journal clearances. The stuff really works well.

Im with JD there, but plastigauge does work. but it is the cheeper way to go. and not as accurate. if you make the rod or main cap to tight or to loose that will make your reading off.

It's OK but I would rather use a dial and a mic. Is this your engine assembly? If so I highly reccomend that you find a person who has done it a few times to help you along.
