Default electric fan

the guy i bought my car from put an electric fan on the car. the temp. gauge doesnt work so i dont know what the car is running at. i just went 57 miles on a half tank of gas.... so im guessing its a wee bit rich. its feels pretty strong but im thinking its rich. the fan is ALWAYS on and theres a **** on top of the fan (thermostat?) but no markings... what should i do to check things out?

i thought i should add, when i turn the ****, the fan stays on regardless of how much i turn it. and i think it is wired to always be on. he ran the wire along the fender, through the door hinge, and into the fuse box...[:'(] im guessing this is the wrong way to do it... ANY IDEAS WHERE TO START?!

Ok if the **** is on the top of the fan that probably is a thermostat activated fan. See if there is like a wire or probe that sticks into the radiator fins somewhere. If so you have a fan like mine. THe **** on top adjust what temp the fan comes. If you don't have a working temp gauge in your car I suggest you leave it there. If you get your temp gauge working what you want to do is turn the **** all the way clockwise (i think) and let you car heat up to about where you want the fan to turn on. Then slowly turn the **** until the fan kicks on. Once it kicks on and that is the temp you want it to kick on don't touch it anymore and leave it alone. If the guy pick a turn key switch you will always have it on. That you'll need to check on your own.

sorry bout that I had to go do something. Ok it sounds like you have the same fan as me. One prong is a main power soure (high), ones a main power source (low), ones an a/c switch(optional), ones a manuel switch (optional) and one is a negative obviously. Let me find the diagram for you

hold on one min
