Default Check Engine??

I just bought an 88 fox and I love it. Let my body drive and now he has to have one. He is looking at a 90 with a 93 motor the check engine lite is on. The owner said thats cause of the swap. Told my freind I would post this to see if its true before his buys.

That check cel could be on for alot of reasons. The fact that the engine is 3 years newer shouldn't matter. They're all cut from the same mold. Either the guy is a liar or a moron. One of the 2 (maybe even both, LOL!!). A simple scan of the ecm would give some info. Ask the guy about having that done before the purchase.

G/L!

Thanks for that, thats what I told him he should do cause I had no idea about. What if the computer from the original engine would that cause the check engine light?

It's entirely possible but since there wasn't a drastic change between those years I doubt it. You could contact Ford or a parts store and see if they list the same ecm for both cars. That will tell you somethin'.

I would run a scan and see what you come up with becuase there could be a million different reasons why a Check Engine Light is comming on after swapping a motor. Hopefully its not anything big/serious and you can get it! Good Luck!
