Default Radar in my 5.0 Fox. HELP!

Hey..didn't know whether this should go in the 5.0 Forum or the Audio/Elect. Forum but,

I have an 88 Mustang and i bought an Escort Passport X50 to put in it. I plan on mounting it on the drivers side so the cowl hood wont interfere with the signal..and im trying to decide how to hook it up. Its got the smart cord which goes into the cigarette lighter but no matter where i mount it on the windshield...its not gonna reach and i would have a coiled wire strethced accross the whole dash and console.

Pretty much..i want to know how i should get this thing powered..i was thinking of hardwiring it into the dash and cutting off the adapter, but theres controls on the adapter that i need to get to. (see picture below)....any suggestions on how i should do this? i was thinking also to buy an extra accessory input and cut a hole in the dash on the left of the dash by the steering wheel and mounting it in there....anyone have any suggestions?

ya i had problems with mine too, i got a little $90 360 degree one though, does the job..

i put mine all the way to the left of the dash and ran the wires around it into the console.

if your radar is a regular DC style plug, you could just buy another adapter. i got an 8 foot adapter so i can put mine just about anywhere.

That would be my suggestion. Or go to radio shack, or the like and see if they make extension adaptors.

If you want, you can take the plug apart, and custom locate the control part somewhere else. The you can hard wire it. I used to do it all the time when I worked in MD. The plug comes apart with a screw , and you can extend the wires wherever you want. It is easiest to only extend power and ground.

+1 plus you can hide the wire better that way. put it above your rear view, i think that would be the best spot
