Default Help fast please.

I just installed a new header gasket, first time I have ever done this. Well when I started my car after a few seconds some smoke started to come out where the gasket is at, so imidiately I turned off the car. all the blots are tight, so I was woundering if its supposed to do this for a little while untill the gasket fuses to the metal.

a little smoke never hurt anybody, could be oil, packageing material, or perhaps you left a little skin behind. LOL i would not worry about it unless it continues then replace the gasket again, no big deal.

it shouldnt smoke with new gaskets. what does the smoke smell like? does it smell like exhaust if so they you dont have the gasket right. is it ticking at all now? did you soak your gaskets before you put them on? you need to soak your gaskets before you installed them so they seat better. after a while your going to need to retighten the header bolts cause of the expansion and contraction of the gaskets.

What do you use to soak? You let them dry or slap em on wet... <IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">?

You put them on wet and the heat dries them out and then you retighten the bolts. I recommend copper gaskets they are little more money but worth every cent because they won't burn out in a couple of years.
