Default About Balancing

Can someone explaine what balancing is. balancing helps out with pistons n cam. And along with balancing i think u can change the 302 to a 306. i would like to get the most hp gain from my stock block before i retire it in a few decades and move on to a bigblock

Balancing helps maitain reliability with bearing . It protects against premature wear on the short block.

balancing and increasing your displacement are two separate entities. balancing i would think is a must to maintain reliability. bore your 302 .030 over would take it to a 306.

ok so when u balance you balance the stock pistons and block? or get newer lighter ones. boreing by .30 from 302 to 306 will there be an hp gain.

its basiclly the same as balancing a driveshaft. You are making sure the crank and all the other components are spining smooth and without any wobble

i believe just the rotating assembly needs balancing, crank, rods, pistons. the block just need to be checked for cracks, etc and bored .030 over. yes increase the displacement and you increase hp and tq.

Default RE: About Balancing

Balancing is when the take your lightest pistons and make the rest of the pistons weigh the same, same for the rods. Then after you balance the rods and pistons, u put them on the crank and spinn the crank at so many rpms and see where the vibration comes from, then you drill holes in the counter balances on the crank to get rid of the un wanted vibration, But remember the balancer and the flywheel are bolted up to the crank you have to have the whole rotating ***... together to balance a motor. and its something that you can not do at home unless you have the tools and equipment. that makes it a lil clearer i hope
