Default Confused - Ticking noise still

Ok here I am again. I have this ticking noise coming from the front left of my engine or so I believe, from what Ive got down in there and found out. I have bbk shorty headers installed and comparing sight to sound it looks/sounds like its coming from the headers. When I got in there while it was running it smelled mostly like exhaust...How the hell do I find the leak? Im like 95% it is a leak of some sort, exhaust or headers. I said it was a ticking noise from a clock it sounded like while in the car. When I got all the way in there it was a series of "pffs" running at the same speed as my car idle. Very Very short pffs, about the length of a clock tick. So my question is, what is the simplest way to find the leak, and once I do, what should I seal it up with? Is it damaging anything over time? Thanks alot everyone

Youll need to try and pinpoint it. Theres no real easy way to do this. IF your sure its in the engine bay, its very possible that its the header/manifold gasket (depending on what you have). They blowout, its not uncommon. Ive never done it on an sn-95, but for the most part its an easyjob... you just need to get your hands in tight places. Ask th guys on here if they have to use any special wrenches (IE deep offset boxes, long box wrenches, crowsfeet etc)

it sounds like a blown header gasket, if it is when you put on a new one
make sure you get all the old gasket off of the header/block, or you will
still have a leak when the new one is on and blow the new one

yeah you may have to replace the gasket. I couldnt see which one was loose so I went in and tightend them ALL. The ones that looked as if then were tight really were not. Check em all. If that doesnt help try the gasket.

dont forget they make a special wrench for the header bolts buy 1 it will save ya from maybe striping the bolts by using a open end box style wrench

also remember to snug all the bolts before you make them tight that way the header sits even on the head.
