Well to give you an Idea on the strenght of these cars I have a couple examples:

-My neighbor had an 88 GT. He bought the car with 167k miles on the clock. He put on a set of GT40X heads, an X303 cam, full exhaust, Edelbrock Performer Intakes, and a 9PSI powerdyne. The car went 12.9-13.0's in the 1/4 all day long up to 280k miles! The he put a new 331 in it and now goes 11's @ 128mph.
-My friend has an 89 GT, bought it with 180k miles on it. Put AFR165 heads, e303 cam, full exhaust, 4.10's, etc. goes mid 13's @ 104mph now has about 190k on the car, and is throwing a 125hp ZEX dry shot on it.

Almost no other engine compares when it comes to strength, gotta love Genuine Ford factory performance.

there have been times where i have lost control but was able to get out of it no problem i almost hit a median coming off a jug handle because my tires were wet i shifted into second while turning tires broke loose and i started going for the median slammed on the breaks stopped literaly with in milimeters of it my front bumper barly touched the snow that was still on it but the only way to learn how to drive is go out into an huge open parking lot and mess around thats how most of us learn and these cars can take the abuse of a couple dounuts and stuff

i wil lsay this. you get a car thats has some age on it and punish it. you will see issues. i have to replace syncros in the T5. tranny/motor mounts will need replaced.

youre good but if you dont know what youre doing **** will break
Your Sig Says If It Doesn't Break You're Not Driving It Right.

I thought it was supposed to break if i was driving it right.

^^ That would of sucked BIG TIME. I had on incident when I was at a stop sign and I was making a left. I cut the wheel all the way and punched it (it was the first week I got my car about 2 1/2 years ago). I didnt know what to expect and I didnt cut it back fast enough and ended up on some ladys lawn. And than tore it all up trying to get off of it lol Gotta love it!

1. very rarely when stock... usually good up to 300rwhp wihtout too much abuse
2. nope, very solid, will almost last forever
3. as long as it's stock, you can drive it as hard as you want
4. same answer as #3

i have no idea what year your car is but assuming it's an 87-93 ...they're solid engines, tranny is the first thing to go usually, will safely take up to 300rwhp... next is the rear end.... and last is the block, wouldn't go past 450rwhp on the stock one, alot of people have done it, but i wouldn't personaly.
I'd have to go along w/ the above statement.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Wow! That's a strong drivetrain, 91hatch. So I shouldn't feel bad about the occasional blast to 75mph. It's funny, I've considered putting some heads and so forth on my car, but felt silly modifying a car that already has 104k miles on it. But after hearing these accounts, maybe I will look into a set of heads. Thanks again folks.

By the way, 91hatch, these are the kind of stories I was hoping to hear.

Dont feel wierd about modding a car w/ 104k. Thats nothing! If the car has been half way decently maintained it should still be running VERY strong w/ that amount of miles on it. Get a nice set of AFR's and than go from there.

Thanks 88. What do you guys think a shop would charge to install a set of heads for me?
