Is it my ignition switch?
Hello everyone,
Here's the rundown. Theengine will not rotate when you turn key. I do not hear the starter engaging. The relay is new and the connections arecorrect. Starter is new and the connection are clean and tight. The engine will only rotate when the relay is being jumped. Does this sound like a bad ignition switch? Or is there a way I can eliminate the switch from being the source of the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

RE: Is it my ignition switch?
sounds like the ignition switch to me, grab a meter and check several of the wires at the ignition switch, I do not have a wiring diagram unfortunately. You really should post this in the tech section to get more responses about your issue.

RE: Is it my ignition switch?
I am having the same problem with my 92 LX... every few start upattemts or so, I will turn the key and nothing will happen, only the dummy lights in the gauge cluster will come on? The batteryand the solinoidare OK. I have been using a wire to jump from my solenoid to my battery's positive terminal to start the car. I used a test light when the problem occurred and there was no current coming from the starter switch to the solinoid. I changed the starter switch and the problem still happens? My last stab is that I have a shorted wire between the starter switch and the solinoid?
What do you all think is the issue here?

Sounds to me like the starter relay attached to the lower right hand side of the column may be separating they are made from plastic and pot metal and the little tabs over time give out and they separate. I don’t have a pict of one but here is a picture of a bare column and you can see where your key cylinder goes and next to it where the relay attaches. Pull the trim and checking it is easy enough.
