Default Can PCV valves go bad?

Please don't verbally bitchslap me too hard on this one but can a PCV valve actually wear out? I was under the impression that as long as you can hear them rattle, they are still good to use. I reused my PCV after cleaning it out with carb cleaner and it still seems to be passing oil into the intake. I will buy a new one as they are cheap but I was just wondering. Slap away!

take it out and test it with your mouth. you should be able to suck through it, but you should not be able to blow through it

It could be the metal breather below the pcv as well, change it out. Mine was totally clogged up. My dipstick stays in like it is suppose to now.
