Default 400hp 302?

What's it take to get 400horse out of a 302, n/a and no spray?

Or actually I should say, what can I get out of my 5.0 while keeping stock internals? Just mods I have now, plus heads and all matching goodies, what's it capable of?

General consensus is that 350 rwhp is the most you can get out of a naturally aspirated5.0L engine. Of course some will argue more is to be had, others less, but it tends to be the mid-range number.

yes its possible i remember a long time ago someone posted about a guy on corral who had an NA 302 making insane power. But he had very high compression and was spinning it over 7K. It all depends how deep your pockets are. But if your trying to make 400 N/A on the stock shortblock i dont think its possible

My buddy makes 355 to the wheels n/a with a stock short block. He went 11.8's today at the track. I'm sure his flywheel hp is pretty close to 400.

For a stock shortblock with it's poor 9:1 compression and if you're staying EFI, 330rwhp is a good goal. Most guys that have passed the 340rwhp barrier have went to carb or swapped out for "stock replacement" pistons which actually raise the compression to a more favorable level.
