Some questions
OK, here is what i want to do: I do not have enough money for a roll cage. But I want 5 point harnesses. How do I mount the shoulder straps? Where? Do I mount the lap belt part right at the poiint of the seat( on the floor of course) back and bottom meet? I thought about using a peice of 3/4 inch black iron pipe, kinda like sprinkler pipe(in a building) or some thick walled chrome moly. Then, using 1" or 1.25" short peice(like 2 inches long) welded to a 4x4 square of steel plate. I could mount the plates on the sides of the car on the inside right behind the drivers seat about seatback height. then I could slide the 3/4" peice of pipe into the mounted plates, inside the larger pipe peices and thenbolt the shoulder belts on that. That means I could also stick a bolt through the two peices of pipe to hold it in place and then i could take it out if I needed to have someone ride in the back.Oh, one more thing, I am planning on keeping the plastic on the inside of the car. What do you think about this idea? Do you have any better ones maybe? Or, any tips on helping me with this? Will the sides of the car, once I weld the plates on them, be strong enough to hold the bar in place for safe usage of the belts?
