225 55 r16 rub? why is that?
i dont know to much about what's supposed to fit well underneath the fender of my 87 GT but you'dthink 225 55 r16's would be ok, well it's not apparently, i have them mounted on some cobra r replicas and they rub in the front where the ground effects are screwed on, it's worst on the passanger side than the drivers, but dont get me wrong, it's not a very bad rub, it jsut makes me wonder if there might be something wrong with my car's suspension, if something's bent.....or if i'm jsut an idiot and i need lower profile tires? what's am i supposed to be able to fit under there?

im running the same size as you are and there is no rubbing at all. (it is very very close to rubbing though...) It could be worn springs, or camber/caster adj??? I am not a suspension expert of any sort.
(You can always upgrade the 91-93 fenders and front skirts...)

91-93s have different fenders and front skirts? I didn't know that.

Ok before I even post this I know I will get people telling me I'm wrong but.......
the dimensions of the 91 - 93 fenders are the same, I verified this thursday when I went and picked up a new fender for my car.
An old associate of mine I had not heard from in years popped up the other day. He now runs a small but well stocked used fox mustang parts / wrecking yard. I talked to him about this very subject and he verified what I been saying for a long time. The only difference in the wheel opening is the fiberglass fender extension on the front of the fender to have it match up to the nose. The extension is shorter by 1 inch across the bottom than the 87 - 90 part and matches the shape of the opening closer.
I have even measured for myself the wheel opening of my mom’s old 91 GT without the extension on it and it measure the same as the fender on my 87. The 91 - 93 have a few other different holes in them than the older fenders too. The fender I got was from an 85 or 86 Mustang and the fender extension for it was even different than the ones on the 87.
The other difference is the inner liner it is shaped different to accommodate the larger wheels.
The front Saleen air dam on my car is for the 91 - 93 Saleen with my fender extensions on it could be forced to fit but didn’t look quite right and my 16†wheels rubbed it. I removed the extensions so my fenders would have the same lines as the 91 - 93 and the Saleen air dam fit perfect and even with my 17†wheels with 245/45 - 17 it doesn’t rub the fender only a bit on the inner liner.
So if anyone wants to say I’m full of BS about this go ahead and keep believing what you want I’ll stick to what I seen with my measuring tape.

I've never compared the two fenders side by side, nor had any measurements taken...
but i do know that when you see a 91-93 gt, the front fender opening in front of the tire does look different than the 87-90 (prolly mostly due to the skirt)

i was planning to get a shock, strut, and spring kit that would lower my car .75-1.5 inches so they say, you think that would make the rubbing worst or would it not really matter, like i said it rubs mostly on the passenger'sside in the front of the wheel where the bumper ground effects molding is screwed in place.

Ihave eibach lowering springs in the front of mine and it didn't seam to make much differeance. For your GT if it continues to rub bad see if you can find the 91 -93 GT front fender extentions so you get the extra clearance and still keep your GT ground effects.
