Yeah, I wouldnt go as far as calling the Ford engine a piece of crap, may be the way to go for a nice daily driver in mild trim.

Let me ask this question...

What about reliability... I know that a 400hp engine wont last as long as something a bit milder...
A milder engine may have better divability and better gas mileage.
I know FRPP doesn't have a warranty on any of their goods, but I'm sure that the longevity of the engineshould be there...

Could I be wrong or right???
People in the know say Ford Crate engines "used" to be ok..........
but they recently switched to a "lowest bidder" program to outsource who was putting them together.

Now you think you're really going to get a quality engine from a lowest bidder to a HUGE company
thats doesnt care about watching over them?

A 347 put together by a competent "performance engine" builder will last a LONG time
and drivability is all in the cam.......... a quality custom cam will be VERy streetable.

Yes, use your money wisely, dont throw it away on a 345hp Ford POS, when you can have
a 475+hp engine for same money.

Those prices are with you getting a new block.

I just had a buddy did this.
Got a 347 short block from PARA, Fordstrokers.com has same thing
347 shortblock ........ $1,699

Then he got a custom cam with matching Canfield heads all set to
work together and pull to 6,500rpm
Cost .............. $2,000-2,100 cant remember exact., came with billet timing chain too.

Total Cost ........... $3,700 for same parts you get with Ford Crate engine, minus oil pan.
His engine should make close to 500hp, for same money
Who is PARA?

i think i might just go with the 347 with 185 afr heads and the custom cam option... worry bout other crap down the road but that should satisfy me with a good suspension

i bought the crate a few months ago and i love it. i have learned a lot since then and for sure the next time i buy an engine it will be built from scrach and have a lot more power. if you were like me and needed a reliable engine fast to go to work and school then get the crate for sure. but if you have ppl guiding you and and good engine builder do it custom

So whats your opinion on buying a long block from someone like that?
they seem to have their act together with custom grind cams and proper power bands and billet timing chain sets
and big heads on their long blocks .......... notice the 190cc heads on a 306?

Notice how their 306 Long block makes 400+hp for $400 more spent than Ford's 345hp crate engine, that doesnt have
all the nice super strong forged rods and steel crank and super good balance...... ect ect. ....... talk about lasting longer

only bad thing on long blocks are the cams usually.
If ordering a custom engine it should have a custom cam, but then valve springs and timing gear/chain set
need to match the cam also.

I spent a lot of extra money "upgrading valve springs" and such on my build, learned some good lessons.
