Hey guys, just purchased my first mustang. Ive been on this forum for about 3 months. I have a 88 GT hatch.
She is a beaut, The hatch latch isnt locking for some reason. I think the pin and clips are not alligned. they might not be going down far enough. IDN. Cant anyone give me a point in the right direction? THANKS.

If you cant adjust the striker to work, then wrap a thick layer of tape around it, i've had mine like that for months.

The adjustment is much easier if you have a buddy that can sit in the car and watch how the latch approaches the striker when you go to shut it. With his guidance, adjusting it should be a piece of cake to get it close right. Just make sure the striker post still has the bushing on it. If not, i would recommend replacing it rather than trying to wrap tape around it.

My hatch was rattling like a ****! The plastic bushing was gone off the pin.So I bought this and it rattles no more.

My hatch use to not close, but i got a small piece of PVC pipe, cut a notch in it and snapped it around the stricker. It works real well and looks much better than tape. It's also free, someone at Home Depot willprobably just give you a scrap piece.

The hatch itself is adjustable too. There are bolts either under the rear plastic roof trim on the inside, or in the body itself near the top of the hatch when you lift it up. I can't remember exactly, I adjusted those and put in new trunk lift supports at the same time. The instructions are in the Haynes manual though. Made closing my hatch easier without doing anything to the striker. It could just be off center like mine was.
