the first one is better if the engine is going to stay up on the stand for a long period of time.
leaving it up on the second style stand, will actually cause the block to sag and warp the bores

The one from Harbor Freight works plenty good. However I do suggest that you modify it slightly bu adding a diagonal brace from the upright to the horizonal leg. I learned this when we tried to hang a 460 on it with all the accesories! It didn't break, but it was a litle too scary for me! I like my toes and shins the way they are!
