Default 1991 5.0 V8 Brakes

hey all - so ive got a 91 v8 5.0 and the brakes are getting pretty squeaky and don't know when they were done last since i purchased the car last february. so what kind of brakes are they? are they the pads or disc?
im a chick so please help me out here - i also need a good recommendation on a place to go to get them done and possible price quotes. i live in the Santa Rosa area of northern california. i really dont have too much money but want to make sure the brakes are done by someone or company thats reliable.
thanksa lot!

It sounds like your pads are wearing out. The sqeak is the wear bars on the pads rubbing against the disk which tells you they (the pads) need to be replaced. If the brakes are still stock I'm pretty sure you have disks up front with drums out back.

Nice Fox BTW

i would buy new rotors and pads at a parts store (such as.. advanced auto) and then get quotes from the local shops. some places may not allow this, but those places will mark up the price on "their" parts by atleast 50%

tell the parts store your car has a V8 and you want ceramic pads.

New rotors might be a bit of an unneccesary expense without having them checked. MOST of the time only the pads will need replacing. The rotors ususally just need machining (turning on a lathe to smooth out the contact surface where the brake pads squeeze). Same for the rear drums. If either has been turned too many times, or not turned at all, they could require replacement.
