Default $5000 for Paint WTF

Everybody I bring my car too wants $5000 Freakin Grand....to paint it...

I should add the hood and front bumper were just done as were the jambs so they dont even have to do those....Plus the car does not have any rust and looks pretty decent now...

5 places all told me 5k and they all said they dont really want to do it..

I ran into something similar around where I am. Honestly though, 5k is not bad for a decent paint job if they strip the car down to bare metal and fix dings and dents. If your car were perfectly straight and only needed to be sanded and painted you would probably be looking at 3k just for that. The main thing is to ask around you area and get names of trustworthy, quality individuals. If it makes you feel any better, I just put 7k into mine including quite a few new parts., and I am pleased it came out looking like this:

Good luck.

I payed $6000 for mine... that's about normal for a GOOD paint job. Down to bare metal, everything taken off (not masked), jambed, etc. Paint really does fall into the catagory of "You get what you pay for."

You're in the land of Taxassachusetts.

I used to laugh at construction yards I would call on up there. They couldn't
even have a pressure washer, cause some EPA state bureaucrat would be in there calling
it a ground water contaminator.

You're getting high quotes due to location. Suck it up ........... or move.

did you call that shop i recommended in plymouth, mass. bakers auto restoration. they did my whole car and fixed some dents for 1800. 700 in supplies so about 1100 in labor. definately did a great job. they would have liked to of wet sanded it but they wanted another i think 300 for that. but i definately think they could be way under that price. especially if you don't need any body work. it may be far but even ifyou had to drive 100 miles it would be worth it to save 2000 plus dollars.

They tell you 5000 right off the bat to scare you away cause all damn paint shops want to do now is suck gravy a$$ work from insurance jobs where they rape the customer with big quotes and little down time to repair.....on a job like yours unless they charge the high rate they don't make out like they do with the insurance jobs!!!! Got a few friends who work with body shops and insuraces companies so I know how it often works....look for someone who restores or works on the type of stuff you own.....it cost me 3500 for a decent paint job when others quoted me 5000 + just to scare me off and a few said it's gonna be well over 5000...are you still interested??? hmmm I said to many and left!!!

I did call him and will probably go to see him a few weeks...I have been slightly hesitant because someone I know from Plymouth did not speak that highly of the shop, but your car looked nice so I think I should give him a shot...

I think I am going to take all the parts/molding off it and then tow it down there and see what he says...I might even strip/sand the paint off it first...
