when taking you engine out?

this winter i want to take my 302 out im going to replace it with a worked 306 what i was wondering was taking the engine out do i have to take the trans out also or no. could i just unbolt engine from trans and take engine out. i dont want to take the trans out at all. someone said i would have too? not shure thanks guys

You don't have too, but it really make's it easier especially when putting it back in. With out a load leveler it can be a bitch to line up. I go back and forth with how i do it.

no i said u can.... but i wouldnt... sorry if that wasnt clear

its just gonna be a pita to line it up putting it in the car... its easyer to line the whole thing up motor/trans. trust me... i just did it w. mine lol

I pull both, all the time....why you ask????? what's easier......pushing the engine into the tranny to line it up...or set the motor and then push the tranny up to it??? I vote for number two........I like to set the motor straight down on the mounts and then put the tranny in......no fighting it at all that way!!!! besides with a moroso 7qt pan the ist way is almost impossible so I'm stuck doing it the second way

+1 on the moroso 7qt pan...
we did mine the "first" way one time, and one time only..
the next time we did it.. the trans AND drive shaft was OUT of there
