+1 lower the tranny with a floor jack and leave her be untilyou put the motor back in

 

I'm too lazy to pull the trans first so I just leave them attached and pull the motor and trans out together even with the 7-q pans. You need to be careful not to scratch the firewall with the trans but it's pretty easy if you take your time.
