Default RE: axle ?

All 7.5 - inch and 8.8 - inch Mustang production axle shafts are formed from hardened SAE 1040 high-carbon steel and measure 1.2 inches in diameter by 29.16 inches long. With some rare exceptions in 1979, in SVO Mustangs, and in 1993 Cobras, 7.5 and 8.8 inch Mustang 28-spline production axles, Ford part number D9BZ-4234-C, are interchangeable. The Mustang Cobra and Cobra R are fitted with axles specially selected for these limited-edition models and are longer than those used in other 5 - liter Mustangs' 8.8 rear end by 0.750 inch (the same axle lenght used in 1993 T-Birds, SN95's and some Lincolns) - Source; The Official Ford Mustang 5.0 Technical Referance & Performance Handbook 1979 - 1993

I know that was more than you asked for but is good information for everyone.
